LUDLOW SIDE HILL CRONCHERS
The 12/6/08 meeting of the Ludlow Side Hill Cronchers Snowmobile Club was called to order by President Murphy at 6:45 PM with 19 members present. The meeting was held at Tim & Michelle Doyle’s home on Guli Road in Ludlow. The meeting was preceded by and followed up with a holiday meal and celebration.
The 10/25/08 minutes, upon a motion by Terry Ellison, seconded by Bernie Ellison, were accepted as presented.
The Treasurer’s report, upon a motion by Bernie Ellison, seconded by Terry Ellison, was accepted as presented.
Trail Master Bruce Ingerson reviewed ongoing projects as follows;
2008 Projects –
1) The by-pass trail at the Hideaway Campground is not completed; Brett Sanderson is to do the excavating soon.
2) The South Hill Trail re-route is 90% complete, sign and fence installation will be done on Saturday the 13th.
3) Groomer Trail changes are completed.
4) South Hill drainage project completed.
5) President Murphy will be picking up the trail signs at Tom Potter’s.
The majority of the trail signs have been put out. Trail Master Bruce Ingerson praised James Ellis and Randy Ellison for attending to trail signs this year. President Murphy thanked all who have participated. Randy Ellison will head up a work party on South Hill next Saturday.
There will be a logging operation at the Pinnacle until January 1st of this year. We need to proceed with caution through this area.
Under Groomer the following was reported:
Satellite Phone - President Murphy reports that the phone will be kept in Brett’s garage this year and must be picked up each time we go out grooming. It is equipped with a charger and outside antenna in the groomer.
The groomer maintenance committee scheduled a work party for Wednesday, December 10th at which a majority of the preparation work for this grooming season was completed. New LED tail lights donated by Bob Pawlowski were installed. There will be another work party on Wednesday, December 10th for some additional maintenance for which the parts had not arrived on the 3rd.
Arrangements have been made to temporarily park the groomer on West Hill if needed.
Under Unfinished Business the following was reported:
Ancient Roads Committee – President Murphy noted that the committee did not have anything to report at this meeting. The general outline of the Ancient Roads legislation were reviewed and the consensus of the group was that the committee needs to stay on top of this project to assure that no trails or potential trails get closed via this process.
Shelter Committee – Rick Yuris sent word that work is basically completed for this year.
Securing Rights of Ways - President Murphy reports this project is complete for one landowner and we now have the format for doing others. He encourages our diligence in being aware of other landowners that may want or agree to do the same thing, especially when they are in the process of selling their land.
Web Site – Rick Yuris sent word that the new web site is on line at (sidehillcronchers.com) and suggestions for improvements can be forwarded to him. Michelle Doyle had the site loaded on her computer for all to see.
Donated Snowmobiles – President Murphy explained that there will be a bidding process for the two donated snowmobiles with the minimum bid being $2200.00. Bruce Ingerson will pick up the two snowmobiles, service them, and have them at his house for inspection. All bids must be sent to Side Hill Cronchers, P.O. Box 222, Ludlow and the outside of the envelope marked "Bid". The bids must be received by January 1st and will be opened shortly after.
Under New Business the following was reported:
The membership committee reported 123 TMA’s issued during the month of November. VAST and the County clubs have been forwarded payment for those.
A snowmobile safety course was held today, Saturday the 6th for 36 students. The program was put on at the Ludlow Fire Station and the club provided lunch to the students. Safety Officer Ron Bixby, President Murphy and Missy Waysville were the instructors for the program. Several other members helped put on the course and meal and were thanked by President Murphy. It was noted that the class is mandatory for anyone born after July 1st, 1983 and the fine for not taking the course is $61.00.
President Murphy reported on the November Windsor County Snowmobile Club meeting that was hosted by our club. The meeting was held at Sam’s Restaurant that provided a buffet for the attendees at no cost to our club.
Bob Pawlowski brought up the issue of the difficulty and danger of crossing the Black River on the Pleasant Street Bridge and offered to construct a separate bridge for snowmobiles. President Murphy explained the difficulties of getting permission to construct such a bridge but explained that he will pursue the issue with all involved authorities in the spring as it is a safety issue.
The subject of purchasing a trailer for the storage of our BBQ supplies was discussed. The membership agreed that to simplify the process of putting on a BBQ it would be a good investment to purchase a good sized trailer for that purpose. Upon a motion by Jeff Predom, seconded by Michelle Doyle, and approved by the members present, Bob Pawlowski and President Murphy are authorized to expend up to $3000.00 for the purchase of a trailer for the purpose of storing our BBQ equipment and supplies.
A discussion was held on the need for such a trailer for the storage of our trail supplies and equipment. Bruce Ingerson outlined the problems we have with the present system and the benefits of using a storage trailer. Upon a motion by Terry Ellison, seconded by Michelle Doyle, and passed by the members present, the Club Officers are authorized to purchase a trailer for the purpose of storing and transporting trail supplies and equipment.
A list of all of the planned club sponsored activities for this season submitted by the Activities Committee, Rick Yuris and Scott Grover, was read to the group. The list is also posted on the club web site and will be in the VAST news.
President Murphy thanked Tim and Michelle Doyle for hosting the meeting and providing a club kick off celebration for the holidays.
The next meeting will be held at the home of Cheryl and Randy Ellison’s on Saturday, January 17th.
